The authors are conducting research into the problem of the essence and the functions of the loan. Special effort is paid to the identification of the constitutive elements of a loan. The author is arguing that the loan has a major impact not only on the economy, but on the people, taking into consideration the fact that it is hard to find someone who does not have o reimburse a loan to a bank. That is why it is important to underline the functions of the loan and to conduct research in order to find out how the Central Bank and the commercial banks ensure the realization of those functions.
